Belgian origin for Beyonce

We learned today that Beyonce would have Belgian origins. This discovery is due to Marie Cappart, a renowned historian. I invite you to visit her website and read the small article written by the Belgian public service on this subject.

For me, this is the opportunity to do some research on Albert Decuir, Beyonce’s ancestor. One can find his baptism certificate in the parish of Saint Jean-Baptiste of Macon, in the province of Hainaut:

We learn in this document that his father was called Simon Decuire and his mother Marguerite Dehon. His godfather was Albert Folie and his godmother Anne Hannecart.

On November 13, 1695, he married Catherine Domer in Salles, a nearby village:

Catherine was probably born on October 26, 1674 in Salles. The baptism record does not seem to be available online but it can be found in the index of baptisms of Sainte-Vierge parish:

She was the daughter of Jean Domer and Marie Mossut. Another Catherine Domer, born in 1660 of the same parents, can be seen in the index. Considering the age of their children (probably born between 1697 and 1716), it is reasonable to say that it is the one born in 1674.

We can go back a few more generations to Albert Decuire. For the rest of the story, in America, you will find a very precise history of their journey to Louisiana in 1920 and their establishment in the New World on various sites, notably that of Mr. DeCuir, one of his descendants.
